About Guess the Country

Guess the Country is the incremental-fact reveal game. You receive three clues from hardest to easiest · geography first, then economy, then a famous landmark · and the earlier you commit, the higher you score. The format rewards real country knowledge over trivia-show pattern matching: if all you know is "Eiffel Tower → France", you still score, but at minimum value.

Three difficulty tiers. Easy draws from G20 countries · the names you'd see in any global news cycle. Medium adds mid-sized economies and culturally prominent nations (the next 50 or so). Hard ramps to lesser-known territories · small island states, post-Soviet republics, smaller African and Pacific nations · where even the landmark might be unfamiliar and you have to lean on the harder economic and geographic clues.

Patience-weighted scoring. Guess after fact 1 (the geography hint · continent, neighbours, capital) and you score 3 points. Wait until after fact 2 (the economy hint · currency, exports, GDP rank) and you score 2. After fact 3 (the landmark or cultural cue) it's 1 point. The scoring deliberately rewards committing on harder information · the kind of knowledge a working geographer or a serious news reader actually has.

Why three escalating clue types. Geography is the most general · most countries share their continent and a few neighbours, so the hint is broad and the discriminating power is low. Economy narrows it · few countries have the same currency and export profile. The landmark is the strongest single cue · most landmarks belong to one country only. Stacking them in that order means the game rewards depth over recall.
