Accessibility
Last updated: April 15, 2026
PlayMemorize is built to be usable by everyone. Memory training should not be locked behind inaccessible interfaces. Here is what we do and where we are headed.
What We Do
Touch and Click Targets
All interactive elements (buttons, tiles, cards) meet the 44x44 pixel minimum recommended by WCAG 2.1. Game tiles are generously sized so they work comfortably on touchscreens.
Keyboard Navigation
Every game can be played with a keyboard. Tab moves focus between elements, Enter/Space activates buttons, and arrow keys navigate grids where applicable.
Screen Reader Support
Game state changes are announced via ARIA live regions. Buttons and interactive elements have descriptive labels. Emoji images include text alternatives.
Reduced Motion
PlayMemorize respects the prefers-reduced-motion operating system setting. Animations are minimized or disabled entirely for users who have this preference enabled.
Color and Contrast
Text meets WCAG AA contrast ratios against backgrounds. Games that use color (Color Memory, Ghost) do not rely on color alone to convey information. Emoji rendering uses Twemoji SVGs for consistent, high-contrast icons across all devices.
No Time Pressure Required
Games with timers (Ghost, Math) offer adjustable speed settings. Most games can be played at your own pace with no forced time limits.
Works Everywhere
PlayMemorize runs in any modern browser on any device. No app installation required. It works offline as a Progressive Web App once loaded.
Standards
We aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. While memory games are inherently visual and cognitive, we work to ensure the interface around them is as accessible as possible.
Known Limitations
- Some games (Ghost Memory, Color Memory) are inherently visual. We provide text alternatives where possible but the core gameplay requires visual perception.
- The Geography game uses an interactive map that may be difficult to navigate with screen readers alone.
