About Inference

Inference is a compact PlayMemorize reasoning game about working backward from evidence to its most likely cause · the move philosophers call abduction, the natural complement of deduction. Where deduction runs from a rule to a certain conclusion, inference runs from an observation to the most probable explanation.

How a round works. A handful of coloured tokens has been drawn from one of several hidden bags, and each bag's mix is shown to you. You pick the bag the draw most likely came from. A colour the bag does not contain rules it out completely; among the rest, the best explanation is the bag whose mix most closely matches what you drew. Feedback is immediate and every round is generated from a seed, so play stays fresh and reproducible without leaving your browser.

The opposite of deduction. Pair it with deduction games like Mastermind Deduce and Schedule Conflict, where constraints force one certain answer. Inference is the other half of reasoning: the evidence never proves a single source, so you weigh which cause best explains what you see · the everyday logic of doctors, detectives, and scientists.

Age-aware practice. Library links can carry an age band into the game, so the opening difficulty is tuned to the child or grown-up challenge path that launched it.

Part of PlayMemorize, a passion project from Christoffer De Geer. It runs in the browser and is designed for short, honest practice rounds.
