About Wordle
Wordle is the iterative-deduction word game · guess the secret word and after every attempt the tiles light up to tell you which letters are correct (green), in the wrong spot (yellow), or absent (grey). The format went viral in 2022 because it nails the daily-puzzle sweet spot: hard enough to be interesting, short enough to fit a coffee break, with feedback that turns each guess into information for the next.
The colour code is the whole game. Green = correct letter, correct position. Yellow = letter is in the word, wrong position. Grey = letter not in the word at all. Each guess narrows the candidate set; the optimal strategy is to maximise information per guess (use a high-coverage opener like ADIEU, RAISE, or SLATE) rather than trying to win on guess one.
Three difficulty tiers. Easy ships 4-letter common nouns across 7 attempts · the warm-up tier. Medium ships standard 5-letter words in 6 attempts · the classic Wordle shape that made the format famous. Hard ramps to 6+ letter rare vocabulary with only 5 attempts · where every guess has to count and a careless opener can sink the round.
Strategy fundamentals. The mathematically optimal Wordle opener has been studied (CRANE and SLATE are popular candidates) · they cover the most common letters in English five-letter words. But the bigger strategic move is the second guess: once you have feedback from the opener, the next guess should probe new letters rather than rearrange the known ones. Solving Wordle in 3 reliably is harder than it looks · 4 is a good average, 5-6 is normal for tougher words.
Deterministic. Every puzzle is keyed by a seed in the URL. Copy the link and your friend gets the same secret word · useful for "same Wordle, different starting strategy" challenges. The seed also lets the labyrinth and standalone page agree byte-for-byte on a resumed puzzle.

FAQ
-
How does the colour feedback work?
Green = correct letter in the correct position. Yellow = the letter is in the word but in a different position. Grey = the letter is not in the word at all. The feedback is the whole game · each guess gives you information you use to constrain the next one. -
Can I share a puzzle with a friend?
Yes. Every puzzle has a seed in the URL · copy the link and your friend will see the same secret word. Useful for "same Wordle, different opening strategy" challenges. -
What is the best opening word?
Optimal openers have been studied at length. CRANE and SLATE are popular candidates · they cover the most common letters in English five-letter words (C, R, A, N, E and S, L, A, T, E respectively). But the bigger strategic move is the second guess: probe new letters rather than rearrange known ones. -
How does difficulty work?
Easy: 4-letter common words, 7 attempts. Medium: 5-letter standard Wordle shape, 6 attempts. Hard: 6+ letter rare vocabulary with only 5 attempts · the strategy is the same but the search space is much larger and the budget is tight, so guesses have to be high-information from the start. -
Does it work offline?
