Watch the color sequence light up, then repeat it. Train your visual memory with up to 12 colors
About PlayMemorize Color
PlayMemorize Color is the Simon Says memory trainer · a sequence of colours lights up one at a time, each with its own musical tone, and you tap them back in the same order. Get the round right and the sequence grows by one. One wrong tap ends the run · the streak is your longest correct reproduction so far.
Five palette sizes. Pick 4, 6, 9, 12, or 24 distinct colours. Four is the classic Simon shape · learnable in a sitting. Twenty-four is a serious sport · many of the hues are deliberately close neighbours, so the failure mode shifts from "I forgot the order" to "I can't tell teal from cyan". The palette size also controls the audio · every colour gets its own tone, so a wider palette adds more pitches to track too.
Adjustable playback speed. Run the sequence at 100% (the classic toy's pace) or speed it up to 300% as the reaction-and-recall pattern gets familiar. Faster playback shortens the visual cue and gives less time to verbalise the order in your head, which is the hard part once the sequence passes about ten elements.
Hot-seat multiplayer. Select 2, 3, or 4 players and the game cycles through everyone in turn · each person plays back the shared sequence and the last one standing wins. The shared-sequence rule means everyone gets the same memory test, so the win is real.
Audio + visual together. Each colour fires a unique pitch via the Web Audio API · the audio doubles the cue (you can hum the sequence back) and gives the game a usable shape for low-vision players. Mute the audio with the shared PlayMemorize sound toggle if you want pure visual recall.
Part of the PlayMemorize family of brain-training games. Runs in your browser as a Progressive Web App.
FAQ
-
What is Color Memory?
Color Memory is a Simon Says-style game where you watch a sequence of colours light up, then repeat the sequence from memory. Each round adds one more colour to the sequence · the streak is the longest sequence you reproduce without a miss. -
How does my progress save in Color Memory?
Your best streak per (palette size, speed) combination is stored locally in your browser, so chasing your 24-colour record doesn't overwrite your 4-colour record. Sign in to sync the same scores across phone, tablet, and desktop. -
How many colors can the sequence use?
The game supports 4, 6, 9, 12, or 24 distinct colours. Start with 4 to learn the mechanics; scale up as the rhythm becomes second nature. At 24 colours, distinguishing similar hues (teal vs cyan, magenta vs pink) is half the challenge, and the audio cues become essential. -
Can I play without sound?
Yes. Each colour also has a unique visual position so the game is fully playable in mute · but the audio cue adds a second memory channel (you can hum the melody back to yourself), so most players score higher with sound on. The shared PlayMemorize sound toggle controls it. -
Can I play with friends?
Yes. Pick 2, 3, or 4 players from the setup screen and the game cycles through everyone in turn. The same sequence plays for all players · whoever extends the streak furthest wins. Pass-the-device hot-seat works on a single phone or tablet. -
Why does the speed setting matter so much?
Higher speed shortens the visual cue between colours, so you can't sub-vocalise the sequence (say the colour names out loud in your head) at the same pace. That forces a switch from verbal to purely visual recall · which is exactly the skill the game is training. Crank speed up once the palette feels comfortable.
