About Master Percentage

Master Percentage is a rapid-fire trainer for the single most used piece of everyday math. Every round throws you one of eight different ways a percentage can show up: a straight percent-of question (what is 30% of 80?), a reverse percent (12 is what percent of 48?), a percent change (a price rises from 50 to 65 · what is the increase?), a discount and sale price, a fraction-decimal-percent conversion, a visual estimate of a partly filled bar or pie, a percentage-points question, or a tip, tax or back-to-back change. You pick from a set of choices, always shown smallest to largest, and after every answer you see the one-line computation that produces the right figure.

The wrong answers are the real curriculum. Every option you see is a mistake people actually make: dividing by the new value instead of the original base, answering the discount amount instead of the sale price, sliding the decimal point one place too far, or reading a fraction's denominator as its percent (1/4 is 25%, never 4%). If you fall for one, the worked line shows exactly which step went wrong.

Percentage points are not percent. When a poll moves from 20% to 30% it has risen 10 percentage points · but relative to where it started, that is a 50% increase, because 10 ÷ 20 = 0.5. News reports mix these up constantly, and the game drills both readings of the same move until the difference is automatic.

Up 10% then down 10% is a loss. A price of 200 that rises 10% hits 220, and 10% off 220 is 198 · not 200, because the second percent is taken of a bigger number. The compound rounds are built on exactly this trap, along with quick tip and tax totals you can sanity-check in your head by anchoring on 10%.

Three difficulty tiers. Easy sticks to landmark percents (10%, 25%, 50%) on round numbers, conversions and visual estimates a beginner can reason through. Medium adds reverse percents and discounts with any multiple of five. Hard unlocks percent change, percentage points and compound moves with awkward figures like 35% of 380.

Every round is generated deterministically from a seed, so the printable worksheet's answer key always matches the live game. Part of the PlayMemorize family of brain-training games · runs entirely in your browser and works offline as a Progressive Web App.
