Signal Switch

Signal Switch is a task-switching game. Every round shows one leaf-shaped signal tile that both points somewhere and drifts somewhere · and the tile's colour tells you which of those two questions you are being asked. Green: where does it point? Orange: where does it drift?

How a round works. Read the colour first, then the tile. The solid triangle shows where the signal points; the small streaming chevrons show where it drifts. On a green tile you answer the triangle; on an orange tile you answer the chevrons. Easy rounds often agree · the tile points where it drifts · but as difficulty rises the two directions conflict almost every time, so applying the wrong rule gives the wrong answer exactly when it counts.

What it trains. Cognitive flexibility · the executive skill of holding two response rules in mind and switching between them on a cue. Task-switching cost (the slowdown right after the rule changes) is a standard measure of executive control, and repeated practice at clean, cued switching is how you shave it down.

It grows with you. Difficulty raises the share of conflict rounds from about half to all of them, so there is never a stretch where one rule can run on autopilot.
