About PlayMemorize Rule Flip

Rule Flip is a set-shifting game built on the classic clinical task-switching paradigm. A card showing one letter and one number lands in the top or bottom half of a split board · and the half it lands in decides which rule you apply. Top half: is the letter a vowel? Bottom half: is the number even? Answer yes or no.

How a round works. Look at where the card sits before you look at what it says. A card reading "K 4" is a no in the top half (K is a consonant) but a yes in the bottom half (4 is even) · the same card, opposite answers, decided purely by position. At lower difficulty the rules are captioned inside each zone; from difficulty six the captions disappear and you hold both rules in working memory.

What it trains. Cognitive set-shifting · the ability to change which stimulus dimension you respond to on an external cue. This letter-number split-screen design is a standard laboratory instrument for measuring switch costs, adapted here into a streak game.

Strategy. Verbalise the active question the instant the card lands ("top · vowel?") before reading the card. Most errors come from answering the letter question about the number, or vice versa · not from not knowing whether 7 is odd.
